Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Controls for six-skill Dark Arisen
Pads still rule. Title Update 3.2 finally gives keyboard players dedicated skill layouts.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen does not invent a new control scheme. It inherits the 2024 action RPG and then asks you to drive six equipped weapon skills instead of four. That change is already live in Title Update 3.2 (September 1, 2026, after slipping from late August). The expansion itself still launches October 9, 2026. This page is the input map: pads, the extra skill chords, climbing, pawn shouts, and the two new keyboard control types Capcom added so PC players are not stuck on a 2024 dual-wield of modifiers.
Capcom still recommends a controller. Steam lists DualShock and DualSense over USB, Xbox pads, and partial keyboard/mouse. If you are walking into Norgan on a laptop trackpad, stop and read system requirements plus this page before you pre-order.
What six skills actually do to your hands
On a gamepad, weapon skills are still a shoulder button plus a face button. The fifth and sixth slots are the new grammar: they use two face buttons mashed together, fighting-game style, instead of inventing a fifth bumper. Preview write-ups (including PCMag’s Gamescom hands-on) described that combo as the most immediately physical change on PS5 and Switch 2 kits.
That is why how to play and vocations keep telling you to rebuild before October 9. A Magick Archer who parks a detonator, a support arrow, a gap-closer, and a utility shot is no longer a fantasy. Warfarer still spends one slot on Rearmament; six slots means five real tools, not three. Practice the extra chords in Vermund. Do not learn them on a woolly Norgan Giant.
PlayStation 5 and DualSense
The 2024 campaign already wanted DualSense over USB. Motion controls exist for reticles when a compatible pad is connected. Dark Arisen does not publish a new DualSense adaptive-trigger table; treat rumble and trigger tension as the same language you already know. Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS on PS5 is a Title Update 3.2 graphics option, not a control option — see title updates and platforms.
Climbing, grabbing, and vocation actions stay on the same prompts as 2024. The extra skills are the only new muscle. If your custom mapping from launch week hid a bumper, remap before you equip six skills or you will think 3.2 is broken.
Xbox Series X|S
Same six-slot chords, same bumper-plus-face core. Series X shares the 60 FPS performance-mode sentence with PS5. Series S does not get ray tracing and should be treated as a performance-first picture; the buttons are identical. If you play on a Series S in a blizzard, drop extra visual noise before you blame input lag.
Nintendo Switch 2
Switch 2 ships the campaign and the expansion together on October 9. You will not install a separate 2026 pad patch first; the six-slot bar arrives in that package. Handheld versus docked does not change the button map. Gyro for reticles depends on the Switch 2’s motion support the same way other RE Engine ports do — Capcom has not published a unique Dark Arisen gyro page. Watch previews for how the Switch 2 demo actually felt in the hands, not for a hidden eighth bumper.
PC: mouse, keyboard, and the 3.2 layouts
Steam still lists mouse and keyboard plus partial controller support. Title Update 3.2 added, in official notes:
- A cleaner Button Mapping screen.
- A keyboard control type that activates a weapon skill with a single button.
- A keyboard control type that switches weapon skills with a single button.
- Eternal Ferrystone uses counted in the Adventure Logbook (not a bind, but it tells you how often you actually warp).
That is the first serious PC-layout work since launch. If you bounced off DD2 because skills needed modifier chords that fought WASD, 3.2 is the patch to rebind on. You still want a pad for climbing large monsters and for pawn call-outs in a snowstorm; keyboard is now viable, not recommended as the primary kit.
Ultrawide and HDR do not change binds. Motion reticle support still wants a motion-capable controller, not a mouse.
Shared actions you will spam in Norgan
- Light / heavy attacks — vocation kit. Unchanged.
- Weapon skills 1–4 — bumper + face.
- Weapon skills 5–6 — two-face mash on pad; single-key options on the new keyboard types.
- Climb / grab / vocation action — the same prompts you used on griffins. Ice cliffs in Norgan use the same climb. Preview kits showed pawns boosting you onto a monster; that is a pawn behavior, not a new button.
- Pawn orders — go, come, help, wait. 3.2 made pawns peel, grapple, and follow up more; your shout still has to happen.
- Item / lantern / seizing — inventory radial. Dragonsbaulk Draught is an item you give to a pawn, not a skill you bind. See title updates.
- Ferrystone — Eternal Ferrystone is unlimited after the June update. Put it where you can hit it with cold fingers.
Accessibility and what is not here
Capcom’s public FAQ still says you cannot change font size or color. You can change subtitle background to Dark or Light. There is no published color-blind filter unique to Dark Arisen. Button Mapping is the accessibility win in 3.2.
This page will not invent a full PS5 table with every DualSense trigger force. Official manuals and the in-game Button Mapping screen are canonical. When October 9 adds relic menus at Jiera, those are extra UI clicks, not extra combat buttons.
Practice six skills in the 2024 map, then take the same hands into Lost Rites from level 20 or Norgan around 40. If a video overlay shows eight skills, it is a different game.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.
Do I need a new controller for Dark Arisen?
No. The expansion uses the 2024 scheme plus two extra skill chords. Capcom still recommends a pad. Title Update 3.2 adds keyboard layouts for single-key skill fire and skill cycling.
How do you activate the fifth and sixth weapon skills?
On a gamepad they use two face buttons together, on top of the usual bumper-plus-face skills. Practice in Vermund before Norgan.
Did 3.2 change mouse and keyboard?
Yes. Official notes add a cleaner Button Mapping screen and two keyboard control types: one-button skill activation and one-button skill switching.
Is 60 FPS a control setting?
No. Performance Mode at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X is a Title Update 3.2 graphics target. See title updates.
