Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Dragonsplague after Title Update 3.2
A pawn-only condition with a real cure, stronger combat perks, and a slower wipe clock.
Dragonsplague is still the pawn sickness that can steal a companion’s personality and, at its worst, massacre a town in their sleep. It is not a disease the Arisen catches. Title Update 3.2 (live September 1, 2026 at 5:30pm PT / September 2 at 1:30am BST, after slipping from late August) is the patch that finally gives you a bottle instead of a drowning. This page is that bottle, the combat perks if you don’t drink it, and why Dark Arisen’s Norgan inn is a terrible place to test a town wipe.
The expansion itself still launches October 9, 2026. Dragonsbaulk Draught is a free base-game item, not a $29.99 exclusive. If a storefront tries to sell you the cure as DLC, walk away. Full patch context sits on title updates. Party roles sit on pawns.
What 2024 actually punished
At launch, plague tells were easy to miss: glowing eyes, odd idle poses, a pawn who stopped listening. The community’s “cure” was throwing the hire into the Brine or sleeping in a field and hoping the massacre happened somewhere you could reload. Players who liked the tension had no lever. Players who hated it had no medicine. Producer Naoto Oyama has said out loud that the benefits were not being communicated and that options for dealing with an afflicted pawn were too thin. Title Update 3.1 already made plague stat boosts show as numbers. 3.2 is the rest of that sentence.
Dragonsbaulk Draught
Official 3.2 notes add:
- An item that cures Dragonsplague: Dragonsbaulk Draught.
- Pawn dialogue tied to that item.
- A tutorial so the UI actually explains the bottle.
Inventory copy circulating with the patch calls the draught scentless and tasteless (about 0.20 kg). It is used on a pawn, not drunk by the Arisen. It does nothing for you if you are the one glowing — you are not the patient. Bind it somewhere you will find with cold fingers, the same way you bind a wakestone. The controls page is the input map; this page is the decision.
You are no longer required to delete a favorite main pawn to clean a save. That is the whole quality-of-life argument. It is not “Dragonsplague deleted.” The wipe path still exists if you ignore the eyes and sleep in town.
Why you might not cure it
3.2 also buffs afflicted pawns so the status is a trade, which is what Capcom says they wanted in 2024:
- Afflicted pawns can stun large enemies by attacking their legs.
- They can attack smaller enemies without spending stamina for a limited time.
- Hits on already-stunned foes make those enemies easier to throw off balance.
- The loss gauge — the internal clock toward the worst plague outcome — fills more slowly.
That last bullet is the one people will misread as “safe.” Slower is not stopped. A Norgan Giant fight where your hire is staggering a woolly knee is a good plague minute. A night at the Norgandian Settlement with the same hire is a bad plague night. Oyama’s framing is the one this wiki will keep: enjoy the strategic decision — leave the pawn hot for the hunt, or spend the draught and sleep.
Main pawn versus a rift hire
Treat the two cases as different games.
Main pawn. This is the companion who shares your extra save slot, your vocation plan, and your October 9 screenshot. Cure them. The new conversation event exists so they tell you the bottle is warranted. Listen. Then drink. You can always re-infect later by hiring a glowing stranger; you cannot un-massacre the only inn next to Jiera.
Hired pawn. A rift Magick Archer you planned to dismiss after a Lost Rites door is a fair plague battery. Spend their extra stagger on a red-glow room, gift them overflow spoils (the dismiss cap is now 99), and send them home before you rest in a city. Do not drag a glowing luxury hire into Norgan’s only settlement because their ice resist looked pretty.
Extra save slots from 3.2 are three separate Arisen, each with their own main pawn. Plague on slot A does not infect slot B. It also does not give you a clone of the same hero to undo a wipe. Read the save rule on title updates before you press New Game as a panic button.
Norgan, Lost Rites, and sleep
Preview sessions put an inn and an appraiser in the Norgandian Settlement. That is the building you will want intact. Relic hunts run long. Freki wants meat. Blizzards eat stamina. Tired players sleep. 3.2’s slower loss gauge is there so a long relic loop does not auto-fail, not so you can ignore glowing eyes for a week.
Lost Rites are enclosed 30–60 minute rooms. An afflicted pawn who stuns legs and dumps stamina-free hits on adds is a legitimate dungeon tool. Clear the door, walk outside, then decide whether the draught happens before the oxcart. Do not make that decision at the Vernworth inn desk on autopilot.
What this page will not invent
- A crafting recipe or shop price for Dragonsbaulk Draught until Capcom posts one you can screenshot.
- A claim that the Arisen can catch the plague.
- A claim that the draught is Dark Arisen DLC.
- A claim that 3.2 removed town wipes.
- A Hard Mode interaction. Hard Mode is post-launch work for level-cap players and is not confirmed in the October 9, 2026 package.
If a video thumbnail says “plague removed,” it is lying. If a 2013 Bitterblack guide tells you to purify a cursed item in a special pool, that is the wrong generation.
Practical 3.2 checklist
- Install Title Update 3.2 so the draught, the tutorial, and the extra plague behaviors exist.
- Open the pawn menu and look at eyes before you rest, every time, until it is boring.
- Keep one draught in storage and one on a radial you will actually press.
- Use plague on disposable hires inside Lost Rites or on a Giant knee. Do not use it as a fashion statement next to Jiera.
- Rebuild six weapon skills on the pawn you keep — vocations and how to play — because a cured Mage with four empty slots is still a wipe.
Dragonsplague was the system players asked Capcom to either explain or delete. 3.2 explains it, arms it, and hands you a bottle. Dark Arisen then asks you to take that bottle into snow. Bring it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.
Does Dragonsbaulk Draught cure the Arisen?
No. Dragonsplague is a pawn condition. The draught is used on an afflicted pawn. It does nothing for the Arisen.
Is the draught part of the $29.99 Dark Arisen DLC?
No. Title Update 3.2 added it to the base game for free on September 1, 2026. See title updates.
Should I always cure Dragonsplague?
Cure your main pawn before sleeping in town. Keeping it on a hire you will dismiss can be a combat trade: extra stagger and stamina-free hits, with a slower but still real wipe clock.
Did 3.2 delete town massacres?
No. It added a cure, dialogue, a slower loss gauge, and better plague combat. Ignoring glowing eyes and resting in a city is still the failure case.
Where do pawn roles and orders live?
On the pawns guide. New 3.2 commands such as Explore and High Five are there too.
